After meeting Gyro Zeppeli, an enigmatic outlaw, he discovers hope in the "spin" of the stell ball, which somehow enables him to move his legs again. Determined to uncover the secret of this phenomenon, he decides to participate in the Steel Ball Run Race alongside Gyro.
