A tale of bloodlines and the generational struggle against evil, with protagonists changing over the series

Many people might think, JoJo seems complicated, like having multiple arcs and protagonists. Plus, there are about 100 volumes of the comics, some having different titles, so many may think they don't know where to start.

Beginning its serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1987, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure begins as the story that chronicles the epic conflict between Jonathan Joestar (protagonist of part 1) and his arch enemy, Dio Brando. But their battles extend beyond Jonathan's generation. The battles rage on for over one hundred years, drawing in new descendants as the story unfolds, as a result, having different protagonists and settings in each part.

A Human Anthem: Pride and Courage

Part 1 depicts Dio’s step into immortality through the power of the mysterious Stone Mask, where part 2 follows the stories of the Pillar Men, the creators of the Stone Mask. In part 3, the family's sworn enemy awakens from a century-long slumber to confront the protagonists. These new breed of powerful and strange foes are incredibly strong and captivating.

We first meet Jonathan Joestar. Then there is Joseph Joestar, a master of psychological tactics and strategic thinking. Jotaro Kujo from part 3 is light on words and heavy on action. Each must confront their own “final boss”. And each hero shares the same first two letters of their family member’s name: Jonathan and Joestar join to form “JoJo.”

At the core of the story is its humanity, described as “Human Anthem.” Each “JoJo” follows their own convictions, good and evil. Beyond simple morality, the courage to overcome, to strike down fear, all in the face of hardship, guides its characters.
